Tips for Singapore Night Safari

Getting there, timing and dinner
Arrive around 5–5.30pm for an early, relaxed dinner at the new Safari Junction Food Court (by the entrance). It’s air‑con, has local and Western options, and is generally better than the older stalls deeper in the park.
Gates open at 6pm, with staggered entry slots from 6.15pm. If you can, book an early entry slot (6.15–6.45pm) so you’re inside before the main rush. In fact, you can try your luck if you have other time slots and still want to enter early.
Weeknights (Tue–Thu) are noticeably quieter than weekends and school holidays. If your schedule is flexible, this alone cuts tram and trail crowding a lot. Here is the link that tells you how to get to the zoo.

Further tips
Leave by about 10.30pm if you want a relaxed journey back; later than that and you’re relying on very late services and potentially long waits. Remember that taxis will have late night surcharges and private hire such as Grab and Tada might have surge pricing.
Take Bus M2 from Night Safari back towards Khatib MRT (on the North–South Line). The bus stop you alight at in the morning is the same one you board from to return.
From Khatib, transfer to the MRT to get back into town.
Take Bus 138 from Night Safari back towards Springleaf MRT (Thomson–East Coast Line), while Khatib is on the North–South Line. Both lines will bring you back into town.
There is no free Mandai shuttle now. The Mandai shuttle costs S$2.50 per way, strictly cashless. Prepare an EZ‑Link card, credit card, or debit card. Bus service runs daily from 8.30am to 12.00am.
Food options at Food Republic (Mandai Wildlife Reserve)
Do arrive early for Dinner to beat the dinner crowd and also ample time to enjoy the Night Safari. The place I can recommend to have a good dinner is at Food Republic just outside the entrance to the Zoo and Night Safari.
Food Republic at Mandai Wildlife Reserve is a large, heritage-themed food court located just outside the Night Safari entrance (Mandai Wildlife EAST). It’s open daily from 8am to 9pm, so it works well for an early dinner before your 6.15–6.30pm park entry.
The concept is modelled after 1970s Singapore, with retro shophouse facades and old-school signboards. It houses over 20 stalls, many of them established local brands or heritage-style concepts.

Show and tram strategy
Top tip - The smoother flow is: tram first, then show.
After entering, book the amphitheatre show using the QR code by the entrance of the amphitheatre. Pick the second show at 8.30pm. Seats must be reserved using the QR code at the entrance of the amphitheatre. Yes there is a 7.30pm show if you enter the park at 6.00pm but use that time to take the tram and also venture into one or two trails before the show starts while there is still light for you to orientate yourself.
Head straight to the tram boarding area. This lets you beat the worst of the queue before the bulk of visitors arrive.
The tram ride is about 40 minutes and covers all major zones. This is also where you’ll see the white tiger, one of the park’s signature animals. You can't see the white tiger from the trails so this makes the tram ride a must!
After the tram, make your way to the amphitheatre for the “Creatures of the Night” show.
Be at the amphitheatre entrance by 8.20pm for the 8.30pm show.

Walking trails: how to use the “loop”
There are four main walking trails (Leopard Trail, Pangolin Trail, Tiger Trail, Tasmanian Devil Trail). They form a clockwise/anti‑clockwise loop around the core tram route, so you won’t “miss” sections by picking one direction. If you start from Pangolin Trail (the entrance is just next to the Tram station), it will be a clockwise direction. The Tasmanian Devil Trail will be a counter-clockwise route.
Give your eyes 5–10 minutes to adjust to the dark at the start; you’ll spot a lot more animals once adapted.
Don’t skip the Asian elephant area near a tram stop and the gharial (crocodilian) exhibit; these are frequently mentioned as highlights that people almost walk past.
What to bring (and what you can skip)
Wear light, breathable clothes and comfortable closed-toe shoes. Tip: Bring the mini fan to help with the humidity. It stays warm and very humid after dark, and trails have some uneven sections.
Wet Weather: An umbrella just in case
Bring a small water bottle; there are refill points and drink stalls near the entrance area, but carrying your own saves time.
Insect repellent: optional but sensible if you plan to do all trails; many visitors report minimal bites, partly due to citronella in some areas.
No torch needed; paths are dimly lit for the animals but still navigable. It also can be quite irritating to other visitors if you keep shining the torch into their faces so use it judicially.
Camera tips:
Flash is strictly prohibited throughout Night Safari.
Use night mode for smartphonbes/ high ISO for cameras, and consider a small monopod if you have one (tripods can be cumbersome on crowded trails).
Some visitors find binoculars (around 8×42) helpful for spotting animals in shadows or up on platforms.

Extra tips worth adding
Book tickets online at least 2–3 days ahead via the Mandai Wildlife Reserve site or app. You save a few dollars, guarantee entry on busy nights, and skip the ticketing counter queue.
Avoid peak hours (8–10pm on weekends) if you can; tram queues can stretch to 45–60 minutes then.
If you’re with kids, give them a few minutes to adjust to the darkness before boarding the tram; strollers are allowed on the wide, paved trails.
If it’s drizzling in monsoon season, don’t panic: many tourists cancel, so light rain + jacket = quieter park and shorter queues.
The white tiger is one of the standout sightings on the tram; keep your camera ready but remember: no flash.
