Most of the time, hotel websites such as TripAdvisor or Agoda will ask what areas to consider when booking a hotel. This article gives readers and tourists an idea of the major areas where hotels are located and its vicinity. Having a map here will also give you an idea how far apart they are from the city center. This article also expands on the information given on this webpage.

Marina Bay/CBD


Most of the action will be located in the Marina Bay area, including the annual F1 night race around the bay and parts of the city. This is where you can see Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, Singapore National Gallery, Asian Civilisation Museum, Peranakan Museum and the CBD area.


This area also has some of the most expensive hotels, including the Fullerton Hotel, Marina Bay Sands, and Raffles Hotel. There are also hotels inside the CBD, typically around Tanjong Pagar and Telok Ayer MRT stations.

Orchard Road


Orchard Road is a shopping street favoured by tourists (and not so much for locals). Major malls include Ion Orchard, with a rooftop restaurant; Takashimaya, with its boutique stores; Lucky Plaza or Little Philipines; 313 Orchard/Orchard Central, which has a Donki Japanese thrift store; and Centrepoint, with a Decathlon sports store.

Bencoolen/Bugis/Kampong Gelam


This area is served by Bencoolen MRT and is considered an area for Mid-Budget hotels. You must walk to Albert Hawker Center for food; the nearest amenities are Bugis Junction and Raffles City. There are small eateries in nearby Sunshine Plaza and along Selegie Road. If you are feeling peckish, you must try Rochor Beancurd for breakfast or supper.


Upmarket hotels are located around Bugis such as Intercontinental and Andaz with its amazing view from its rooftop bar. There are also hostels in Kampong Gelam itself but it is not as convenient.


MRT Stations: Bencoolen, Bugis

Here you will find more options when it comes to mid-budget hotels and hostels for the budget concious. Farrer Park has more upmarket hotels. Hostels are around Rochor MRT station.

Chinatown


Chinatown used to be where most Chinese reside but gradually expanded to the rest of the island. It can be considered the real center of Singapore, and it is well served by public transportation. Amenities are easy to find, too, with Chinatown complex for more local offerings in terms of food and Chinatown point for your morning Joe and supermarket.


Most of the hotels are between Chinatown MRT and Clarke Quay MRT stations. Boutique hotels are located between Chinatown, Outram Park and Tanjong Pagar Stations. There are also hostels in the area but is considered a bit more expensive than those in Little India.

Katong/Marine Parade


This is the enclave for the well-to-do and the rich Straits Chinese, or what we call Peranakans. Marine Parade is a coastal residential area in the eastern part of Singapore, known for its recreational facilities, fusion eateries and bars, and proximity to the East Coast Park.
